Why online speech therapy?
In 2005, the American Speech-Language Association (ASHA) released on official position on telepractice saying that telepractice is, “is an appropriate model of service delivery for the profession of speech-language pathology.”
- Over 1.5 million children need speech-therapy every year.
- The need for speech therapy is growing 7% faster than the number of therapists.
- Online therapy gives you the availability of more specialists.
- It is more convenient to log on to your therapy session that to fight traffic.
What is online speech therapy?
TeleTherapy is therapy that comes to you no matter where you are located. With the use of a camera and microphone, you are able to connect with a licensed speech therapist who will customize a program to fit your needs. TeleTherapy is approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
The following statements have been made by ASHA regarding teletherapy:
“Telepractice is the application of telecommunications technology to the delivery of speech language pathology and audiology professional services at a distance by linking clinician to client/patient or clinician to clinician for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation.”(ASHA, 2005) The use of telepractice does not remove any existing responsibilities in delivering services, including adherence to the Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice in Audiology and Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology, state and federal laws (e.g., licensure, HIPAA), and ASHA policy.” (ASHA position statement, 2005)
Will online speech therapy work?
Numerous studies on the effectiveness of online styled learning environments have been published since around 2001*. The overwhelming consensus is yes, teletherapy (and online learning as a whole) is an effective method of learning. Teletherapy is built on a child’s natural aptitude and curiosity towards new technology.

How does it work?
1. Your student will log in to a private-secure classroom.
2. Your student’s speech therapist will guide them through their session with online activities and interactive games that target their goals.
3. The speech therapist will enter data into the proprietary system that keeps records of your student’s progress.
4. You have the ability to see progress online and/or speak with the therapist to monitor progress.
